French

Niagara Catholic’s core French program begins in Grade 4 in all elementary schools.

As they progress through elementary school, students communicate with growing confidence in French. This skill will benefit students who are interested in learning French and other languages throughout their lives.

Students learn that French is spoken in many more places than France or Quebec. By learning about these other cultures, it opens students up to a world of understanding. Schools often offer cultural and French-speaking opportunities, such as Carnivale and French cafes.

Students are required to take French in high school, and many continue with French all the way through Grade 12. Many of those students participate in French proficiency tests that help set them up for success later. They also participate in French-language career exploration with guest speakers.
